While in Big Springs
Country, come by Ellsinore Pioneer Museum in East Carter County. Located
in Ellsinore, 1/2 mile off Highway 60 on Route V, a stop here can be the
crowning touch of your vacation. Buy sourdough bread and blackberries
when available. When scheduled, you can see genuine spinning,
sorghum-making, rug-weaving, black-smithing, soap-making, quilting,
hominy-making, cider-pressing, bread-making and other pioneer tasks by
people who cherish our pioneer heritage and want to preserve it.
Find help in tracing your family history. Our Museum has records
forms and a resident genealogist to advise in researching family trees.
Shop for quilts, crochet, and other native handiwork at our
cooperative gift shop.
From May 21 through August 27 the Museum is open from
10am to 5pm on Wednesdays and Saturdays. For the remainder of the year
the museum is open on Wednesdays.
